The 5th European Ornithologists’ Union (EOU) Fledglings Meeting at the Faculty of Biology

On 27–29 March this year, our Faculty hosted the international ornithological conference 5th European Ornithologists’ Union (EOU) Fledglings Meeting. This prestigious event, dedicated to early‑career researchers - from bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students to scientists who obtained their doctoral degree within the last five years - brought together participants from across Europe. This year’s edition brought together 131 participants from more than 20 countries, marking a record attendance.

The conference programme was exceptionally rich. Attendees had the opportunity to take part in inspiring birdwatching field trips, hands‑on scientific workshops, and a series of lectures covering current topics and cutting‑edge research. The presentations addressed a wide range of fields, including population ecology, bioacoustics, ecophysiology, movement ecology and avian morphometry. The meeting provided an excellent platform for exchanging experiences, learning about modern research methods, expanding scientific networks and establishing future collaborations – all particularly valuable for researchers at the beginning of their academic careers.

The event was organised by a team of young scientists from the Department of Ecology and Vertebrate Zoology and the Bird Migration Research Station at the Faculty of Biology, University of Gdańsk, and the University of Wrocław.
